There are significant disparities in representation by gender and race/ethnicity in the doctoral STEM workforce and inventor populations. Federal R&D funding is a major driver of national innovation and scientific progress, with nearly a quarter of the doctoral STEM workforce and a third of the patent-holding doctoral STEM workforce reporting federal support for their work. The analyses in this dashboard investigate the relationship between government funding and the diversity of inventors, the relationship between government funding and the diversity of the doctoral STEM workforce, and examine the contributions of federal agencies to the diversity of the workforce and inventors.
